VISUAL DESIGN:FORM DESCRIPTORS SERIES PART I

Hi friends! This is my second series from visual design blog series. In this series we will touch on the concepts of various form descriptors like;

  • tone
  • texture
  • measurement
SO LET'S BEGIN!!!

TONE:

Tone is a form descriptor where it distinguishes lightness from darkness.
In this image we can see the tonal difference in defining the shape of the ball and its surroundings

Tone can be used:
  • to create a contrast of light and dark.
  • to create the illusion of form.
  • to create a dramatic or tranquil atmosphere.
  • to create a sense of depth and distance.
  • to create a rhythm or pattern within a composition.

Studying the works of michelangelo:

In this artwork by michelangelo we can see the depth in her eyes and headdress through tonal difference
This is a portrait  of  Michelangelo. This excellent piece gives details of  every crevice on his face
'CREATION OF ADAM' by michelangelo.
Here we can see how richfully every part of the body of the two protagnists are well defined

CARAVAGGIO (c.1527-1610) Basket of Fruit, 1595-96 (oil on canvas)
This is a classic example of tonal difference. You can see the depth in fruit basket and fruits due to tonal difference
